The objective of Punmantou is to guess the word based on the clue. Words are puns and portmanteaus — usually a combination of two words creating a punny new meaning.
Clue: Dude, it's not my first kegger
Think: Bro, it's not my first rodeo
Answer: BRODEO
Type letters into the white Tiles and hit GO. A correctly guessed letter turns green and the Tile is locked. When you find a letter from a guess that is part of the solution, but in the wrong position, it is shown in yellow on your Keyboard. Now you know part of the solution, but not where that letter fits. The number of attempts is equal to the number of letters in the solution, plus one Free hint in your first two turns.

Use the buttons to learn more about the hidden word.
Buy a Clue gives you a second clue, usually easier than the first. The two clues often work together and play with the words and sounds in the solution. The cost is three attempts.
Free Letter gives you a random letter and locks it green. It is available only in your first two guesses. No attempts are deducted.
Buy a Letter gives you a random letter in the solution. The cost is one attempt.
Easy Mode
Easy mode gives you more information. Found letters (yellow) are shown in the Tiles and the Keyboard. Now you know where it does not fit, making it easier to pin down the location. When you Buy a Letter in easy mode, the letter is locked (green) in the Tiles.
The game starts in easy mode.
Hard Mode
Found letters (yellow) are given only on the Keyboard; you found a letter, but have no information about where it fits. When you Buy a Letter it is given on the Keyboard in yellow.
Select hard mode from the Settings icon.
Tips
No ideas? Fill empty tiles with any vowels and common letters. You might find green and yellow tiles!
Think you know part of the solution? Type it in and see what happens.
Look closely at the hints — the sounds of the words, not just their meaning. You might even find the actual words of the puzzle in a clue!
Punmantou's aren't obvious. Most people start out with these hints: Free Letter, Buy a Clue, and Buy First Letter.
Yellow letters are part of the solution, but in the wrong position. Edit any yellow tiles before guessing!
